Is this really a Tiger Scat or did I get ripped off?

No question that is a S. argus, but it's a beaut!

While many have kept them successfully in pure fresh water, i personally believe they like some salt in the water. Scats do well across the range of salinity throughout their lives. Mine have always done well at 1.003-1.007. See my tank below.

Having said that, most of your other fish would not do well in even a lightly brackish tank, and that scat is going to look real big, real soon amongst his tankmates in a 55gal.

I salute having acted decisively on what may have been a steal of a deal, but now you've got a fish that stands out in the "which one of these things is not like the other things?" game.

You've got a tough decision to make, because you did score a really boss fish, but keeping it is going to require a few changes. Either:

1. Return it

2. trade in you current fish, go brackish, nover look back, at least untill you have to get a bigger tank for your future whopper and his inevitable tankmates

3.Go for the bigger tank now, or in the immediate future, and keep two tanks!

Just my opinion, of course. . .

Neale Monks' FAQ is the best Brackish resource. http://homepage.mac.com/nmonks/Projects/brackishfaq.html

He will soon be a Brackish Tank!

I personally can say that I would not trade in my green and red scats! they are awesome fish with so much personality. Going brackish is a great decision. I never have regretted it, and keep upgrading the selection I have to bigger brackish tanks.... Good luck with yours.

Is this a real one? And how would I go about switching the fish to Brackish Water. I'm setting up a Brackish tank in a month, but how adjust the fish?
