Istlanum aggression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It was the hard way. I put the divider up, but they were so small couldn't keep them contained. The male stressed the female to bloat. I have 2 stashed in a 20L, but as my luck goes they're both males. On the bright side they're quality males.

Really sorry to hear that.. At least your optimistic about it all:) good luck with the ones you have left.

Staying civil and on topic? That's exactly what I've been doing... talking about my experiences with aggression amongst Istlanum!

Look I'm not going to argue with you anymore over this matter....This is the last I've got to say on this. You're saying I can't refute something?... Yet you can't prove yourself that you've created a viable pair that hasn't or doesn't kill eachother - to do that I'd need you to prove to me that you have a pair that has lasted and has grown together harmoniously from early juvenile size to large adults like the pair I have. Failing that its simply your word against mine.

You can't refute my argument so you resort to ad hominem, lets try to stay civil and on topic Phil.

I'm not familiar with the geography of the US but if you've heard of Mel he has loads of adult Istlanums and he lives in Washington state I believe.

Apparently you either don't understand what inbreeding is or just lie, I'm inclined to believe the latter.

Well your experiences seem to contradict mine and besides which I never inbreed my cichlids, which is what you're doing... It can cause all sorts of problems.

A pair formed from the same batch of fry sounds a little like inbreeding to me. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...ASOMA-ISTLANUM-Spawning-♡♡♡

Congratulations! Where did you get your pair?

Thanks...

Got them as tiny fry from a shop called Fish Alive in Durham. UK... They were unknown fry at the time and I managed to identify them from the father who was in the shop (the females had died). I was given about 60 fry to raise on by the shop owner (as he didn't have the time to raise them properly) and then when they reached 1" I gave back most of them and reared the remaining 10 to about 3".

Yes the male (I have) is inbred by one generation but my current female is unrelated. Therefore.... talking in terms of the present the fry I currently have are not inbred.

So I answered your question you can now prove that you have a viable pair???

I thought these guys were supposed to be super aggressive, I have 3 in my 180 and my red terrors/ hornet tilapia are bullying them all throught the tank and they are all the same size🤔🤔

Well Festae and Buttikofferi are world class bullies. That doesn’t mean Islantum aren’t super aggressive, just not against fish of that elite caliber. I hope you separate them before too much damage is done. Also, a PIC of your tank would be much appreciated!
