It looks like I have to euthanize my oscar :(

I don't think I could ever cut one of my fish while it's still alive. I believe clove oil is the easiest and least traumatic (for us and the fish), method.

Bingo. For the sake of saving $5 on a bottle of clove oil it never ceases to amaze me how many people are willing to decapitate their pet [quick for the fish, but gruesome for the owner and horrible if you get it wrong], or even worse put them in the freezer [easy for the owner, slow and painful for the fish]...

exactly i still dont get how someone could put a fish in the freezer! and decapitating, is a quick way to end a fish but you need to have some reall balls to do it....

Who decapitates a fish? Just a quick whack to the head right above the brain is a lot quicker and easier. And NO, DO NOT FREEZE him while he's alive. That's just stupid.

But like has been said, you can probably bring him back. You just need to start doing 80% water changes daily (twice daily if you can). Start BIG FREQUENT water changes, and see if you can bring him back. He's probably just sulking because he feels bad (oscars do that).

Anyway, HITH is on YOU, the owner. You failed at your responsibility as a pet owner to provide adequate conditions for your pet. HITH is completely preventable if you have good water conditions. In my opinion, you're lazy, and I don't feel bad for you at all.

I have to do this for my step dads red Oscar this weekend. I found the clove oil is very easy on the fish and works a lot faster then anything else.

Sorry. Use it as a learning experience and make necessary changes so it doesn't happen again.

This exatly. This is how all of these kind of situations should be taken. Do what you can to keep him live, give him the best life you can, and after, do what you have to so it won't happen to you more

How do you euthanize a fish with clove oil? Put it in his water? Inject it? Excuse my ignorance
