There's even fish tuberculosis, but from what I understand, it is not transferable to humans.

Not quite true. I have a thread about fish TB showing incidents where the disease is transferable, through injury sites, from aquaria to humans. It's not the exact same pathogen as human tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) but, is closely related (Mycobacterium marinum). It will cause lesions around the injury site. And, if rubbed or scratched and touched to another injury site, will remanifest in the new wound. Proper hygiene is always a good idea when working in and around aquaria.

It happens to me too. But then again, I have a lot of scratches on my hands and I have a brackish tank.

Yea, it happens to me a lot, and I use purigen to remove all of that junk!

that happened to our aquatic specalist and petco form the salt water, she had to get medicated hand cream and has to where sholder high gloves now.

I could never put gloves on and clean a tank. I would be afraid someone would take a chunk out of it. Besides, I'm not one of those keen on safety. Haha, learn from your mistakes and I usually learn the worst way to do things. Besides, some gloves have chemicals in them that could get into the tank. If you are that worried, get longer gravel vac, a grabber, and a magfloat.

Ya, ironic, last night I read in one of my other "standard" forums, in fact where I originally read that fish TB was non-transferable, that the concensus had changed. It is now considered to be hazardous to humans. Good thing I didn't lose my bird finger!! LOL
