when you sit back and look at all the fish on this site...then you look at how many people have fish they can't house...it boggles the mind...if these fish were availible more offten you would see them in so many tanks that people think are 'good enough'...what it comes down to is that if you can get these fish you already have a heads up on how big they get as you have to go through a breeder(witch will have adult subjects)...also the fact that the qoute was directed at someone that isn't a noob is why it is so great...

Your absolutely correct about that. Maybe I just have a special place in my heart for a native fish that is protected in a lot of its range, although here you can get permits to take them by archery or snagging (missouri river).

And even the average aquariast with atleast one tank larger than 500gallons would not have the means to keep this fish.

I have seen the OP's posts on the NANFA site and I think that he is one of a few handfuls of people on this website capable of keeping these fish happy

Many people on this site are here purely for Q&A and buy and sell, not everyone shares their builds. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean we don't have it.

That said, you do make some very good points. I was merely putting questions out that hadn't been put out yet, because this is a fish that I have never seen on this forum. I am not personally looking to house a gigantic paddlefish, but New York is a MFK brotherhood and I know some people who live to keep giant sturgeon, and they would be interested in hearing more about a paddlefish source. :)

Right, but these fish grow larger than a red tail catfish, and are FILTER FEEDERS.

they get equal to rtc's...not all are filter feeders people have them and have them eatting pellets, fish like silversides, and many many other things...i know oddball has mentioned before that he has had some that would invert to eat some floating foods...i can't place his name right now, but not to long ago someone had one that was taking silversides off a feeding stick...so there is much for you to learn...

here in MN i know of a few haturies that i could most likly get some, but they will wait for my 'lake' i am going to build as i will get lake sturgeons, muskies and a few others from the same sorce for that setup...in MN it is illegal to take or attempt to take a paddelfish, but you can still own them if you get a sorce...

Foxlarocks, these fish eat pellets, the fish i have are reputed to be runts that will not grow any where near as large as the wild fish will. I honestly have no idea how long i will be able to keep these fish. I intend to learn as much as I can with these fish and see how they grow. the possibility of them being runts that will not grow to the huge size most do is intriguing but I won't know for quite awhile if they are keepable long term. If they get too big i am quite capable of putting them in alcohol and keeping them long term as preserved specimens.
