Jack dempsey and Angelfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok guys it has been a little over a week. The black angel hasn't been harrassed at all by the jack dempsey, the jack has not shown any aggression towards the black angel. So I attempted to re add the golden angelfish yesterday during the day this time and everything has gone smoothly. The jack does chase the angel away from her territory from time to time, but everything goes well. I assume thejack gets dark next to golden angel to show that she is the tank boss. I am being very cautious and seeing what's going on in the tank. I am no longer planning to add anymore fish to the tank as I feel that it's well stocked.

It's been over a month, evry was going well. Until right now when I came to check on my fish tank, I saw the white angel fish's body floating and I see its face all ripped of. I knew it was the jack dempsey because that was the only cochlid I had in there, the rest are community fish. I still can't believe why it killed it, must've done something that threatened the jack. Now I fear that the same might happen to the black angelfish. The jack didnt bother the black angekfish when I first introduced it. Would it be best to rehome the angelfish or rehome the jack. I would rehome the jack, but it's a little 3 inch girl that I've been raising since she was 1 inch and has such good color. Literally almost looks like a male, but it's a girl. Such prominent blues on it. Who thinks would be the best choice for me. I can post the pic just to make sure its girl (which I'm certain I'm correct)

I don't know why you can't believe this happened, most people that have answered the thread predicted it.
And because your JD is only 3" at this point, you should expect more carnage as it gets bigger, its still a baby, male JDs will eventually hit 10", females slightly smaller.
I would venture to predict that once it hits maturity, (in a tank about 1/4 the size of a normal JD territory), none of the other fish in the tank will be safe.
