That's a mich better idea I think to be honest and may be the way I go.. i see the thread of Yankyjacks with the breeding and the fry it looks like a amazing project good luck to both of you guysThe easiest way is to get 6 juvenile JDs, and let nature take its course. It's a bit harder sometimes to get older fish to pair up without at times bad outcomes.
In the case of my EBJD he had a female was doing his thing and no luck. I gave him to Yankyjack and he has a mess of JDs, so he got to pick a girl and breed in days.
I also had a male and female convicts breed 10 days after I got them out of a tank with 20 other cons in it. Each cichlid is individual and you could get that male and go thru 1 to who knows how many females before you get some breeders.
Would this JD be a female?Looks male to me, female's get a blue beard like in this pic, see the skin itself turns blue.
