jaguar catfish

which would you get jaguar catfish or ralphael catfish?

I would agree with viktor. Dont buy this fish anticipating seeing them much. Yes mine were incredibly active but since they were attacked and moved out of the 300 and into a 75 gal they are back to hiding all the time.

Why not consider getting some active pim types ?

Bottom line is most likely the fish will hide. So unless you get creative with the hides you wont see it much. As TBTB stated what i experienced with my jags was not common. Seeing them swimming laps in the tank was enjoyable. Now that they are back to hiding its kind of a let down from how active they were. Yes when i purchased them i anticipated never seeing them but hat the hell we got used to it lol. Im actually thinking about trading them in for something else

You may want to check out hoplo cats. Some of the varieties have simiar markings to the jag and they are much more active fish. There are also porthole cats and the many varieties of synodontis that might fit the bill.

I understand but the colors from the jag Catfish are beautiful and eye catching ... Plus every catfish has different personality/behavior
 
To be fair to the jag, i would see mine every morning because i get up for work around 5 and he would be prowling. But yeah absolutely nada in the daytime. I sort of enjoyed that though. It was sort of a privilege to see him.

My biggest complaint was his proclivity towards jamming himself exactly where i didn't want him. Between the wall and heater, under the filter intake...he died because i had my canister intake exposed for a couple hours and he managed to swim into it and get stuck. Its not like there wasnt a myriad of hiding spots in the tank either.
 
So I declined on purchasing an jag catfish today but does any one know anything about fox-face Catfish (Goeldiella eques)???
