midas/RD VS a Dovii, Dovii's would own a jag anyday, i seen a vid sumwhere of a full size dovii like the one feaured in this vid killing a 14" male jag when they were spawning. this RD/midas puts up a hell of a fight in these 3 vids against a full size agro dovii pair.

video 1 : http://youtube.com/watch?v=lEAT-Gn4lVU
video 2 : http://youtube.com/watch?v=p4Oz9rVxgLw
video 3 : http://youtube.com/watch?v=J-rRbZHJvU8

(luckily he has bought them seperate tanks now)

also when my dad used to have his female jag in with the male they were spawning once and they had to be divided off because the RD smacked the female so hard she was peeing out blood from the gills and it filled up half of a 150G 5x2x2 tank with blood. the devil was eating the jags eggs of the rock while the jags were pecking at him, he was acting as tho he couldnt feel a thing and just kept eating away happily, the jags would have been killed if not for a trusty divider.
that dovii is not near full grown

It depends, I have a jag and RD. Their always lip locking over a cave they hide in. So I threw in another cave and they stopped. The Devil looked more vicious when they fought but the jag took control.

Go for the jag - no substitute for that much attitude and a huge maw.

it is full grown in the last vid, that is a 14-15" RD and they are fighting a breeding pair of dovii... any way dovii aggression does not increase as they get bigger, as soon as they are mature, they are as aggressive as ever.

i give it to rd.. look at it this way.. both fish at lets say 9 inches thrown in empty 30 gal with gravel and a small ornament.. rd will have height on the jag at that size.. the jag will have a much bigger mouth and a longer slimmer body.. i see it as the rd starting to flare up on the jag first and the jag flaring to show that hes not a chump.. theyll swim around for a bit but eventually they will start to show interest in one another.. the jag will do their huge jag flare and they will start to wave.. the jags mouth is larger with larger more spread out teeth.. WHICH IS NOT GOOD FOR LIP LOCKING.. the red devil should have more tenacity then a jag at this size also.. the jag is still only a small specimen at this size when the rd only has about 4 to 5 more inches to go.. which makes him the larger of the two.. atleast to him anyway.. the red devil will eventually wear down the jag and he will give up.. btw ive seen this happen b4 more then once.. the same two fish about 4 times.. the rd won every time

oh and that red devil def not 14 inches in the video ide say about 9 or 10

it seems in all smaller cases rds dominate but from full grown male jags really pick up their nuts so to speak and outsize and out temper

some one asked on one of his videos and he said 14", i agree with this about the devil/jags. people always think that the jag would win, i thought it aswell until i actually experianced it.

I had a 9inch RD mutt kill a 11inch male jag in a night, I have said this befor on MFK somewhere, give me £50 on the RD every time!

I might be a noob but I disagree. it's not always about "size" and strength. I've seen conict cichlids take on oscars to defend thier turf and win. And an oscar can clearly kill a convict. I've also seen RD take on red bellied pirhanas and win. Have you seen the teth on Red bellies?
