Chinatown NY should definitely have them. Go to Maine or other coastal areas during striper season and you'll be able to find smaller (12-18") eels that are sold as bait.

Mine look like this:

Very nice!

Are yours green as well? When exactly is striper season anyways? (lol)

Very cool. You should be my friend. :naughty:

glass eels or european eels

I had two babies but my fish ate them

Mine are kinda greyish green with cream coloured bellies. Sometimes their bellies turn bright yellow, but that fades rather quickly. Just make some calls to local bait shops and they'll let you know when they usually have eels on hand. Is there a friend feature or something on here?

Okay, I will definitely check out the bait shows. But, I currently live in Central Virginia, so I am not sure they would have them, but they might! Now, if I was on the east coast of VA, I am sure the bait shops would totally have them.

I would love to see pics of your actual eels later if you are still willing to share with the class, of course. ;)

Since you guys have helped me to figure out what species these Eels are I have been doing a little research. It turns out that the North American species gets pretty big, especially the females.

I called a rather large bait shop on the east coast of Virginia and they definitely have them. They said they are anywhere from 12" to about 18" in size and they sell them for $2.50 an Eel. Wow. That's pretty cheap. I have also read on some websites that these Eels are usually kept in atrocious conditions though since they are just used as bait.

Yeah, only females are available. Males stay in brackish water. The females get about 5 feet...

Which bait shop is it?
