Congrats dennisdeng!
I don't know what the follow up post with "R&R HOF" meant, but you'd already nailed that question anyhow with your answers:
'The Who' (drummer Keith Moon left us in '78 and bassist John Entwhistle in '02)
'Grateful Dead' (Ron 'Pigpen' McKernan in '73 and our beloved Jerry Garcia in '95 - that was a VERY sad day indeed)
'Jimi Hendrix' of course left us too soon - only 1 year after his Woodstock gig
and from the band 'Santana', bassist David Brown past in '00.
It's very sad that so many of those original performers past as they did.
They lived and played hard - too hard for a body to withstand in many cases.
Just to mention a few better known names:
Bert Sommer (as already pointed out) in '90
Tim Hardin '80
Janis Joplin '70
Paul Butterfield '87
Rick Danko (of the Band) '99
Felix Pappalardi's (of Mountain) wife shot him dead in '83
Tom Fogerty, (of Creedence Clearwater Revival) brother of John Fogerty, lost battle with AIDS in '90
plus too many other great musicians - all succumed to drug/alcohol related deaths. Each one a tradgedy and each loss a terrible waste.
Hey, on the bright side, many musicians' careers took off as a result of the Woodstock Festival.
And did anyone know that Ravi Shanker (said to be the greatest sitar player in the world - who had played on many Beatles recordings prior to his Woodstock gig) is the father of Nora Jones?!
Thanks to everyone who participated and to all who read the thread.
I thought that posting photos taken from that weekend would be fun.
Can you just imagine the scene, the vibe, the mud, the smell, the memories?!
Peace
