Agreed on difference between GH & FH -- but my fish's head has never been 100% covered, there are some brown splotches here and there (even more so, some places where the gold layer is not as thick and you can partially see some brown below the gold), so I've never referred to him as a full helmet). This is reflected also in the price I paid for him, upper-middle, not top tier.

And yeah I guess regardless of what kind of Asian Aro one is getting, there's always the factor of luck (or sometimes not) -- your experience can give at least some hope to highback owners :)

Btw has qnyone ever seen any larger/older Xbacks with 100% full helmet (and displayed under relatively normal lighting, not 24k lighting hocus pocus)? Personally I've only seen small-mid size fish exhibiting like this, but who knows, maybe some of the newer generations will grow to full adulthood with FH more or less intact, given that this trait is being seen earlier and earlier with each new generation.
Even if it's head has never been 100% covered, still looks better than most FHs that don't even cross :)

If you paid in the middle, that's an extremely good thing seeing what you've got. it's more of luck IMHO; until sellers or people with an actual eye for aros document an actual selection process, it will always be left to luck for your average hobbyist, or experience.

A good example would be purchasing SRs. Prices are dictated by the size you get them at, but primarily by farm name. In my country, what turned out to be a fly-by-night "farm" popped up 2 years ago, selling extremely cheap super reds; They were being sold by a well known, and trusted shop at 6 inches (good luck with that) and their prices were too good to pass up. 2 years later shop gets scandalized with a couple complaints that they were sold Malaysian RTGs passed off as SRs. An average hobbyist most likely wouldn't be able to tell the difference with Asian arowanas that small, but one thing's for sure; the tag number indicated in the SR's certificate matched the tag of the Malaysian RTG; following that debacle on social media was exhausting, you can imagine the business fallout between the supplier and the shop. Most of the said "SRs" though turned out to be SRs but, at best, a dull orange, but 2 years is too early to say.

There are SRs that look almost exactly alike in color (at least to me), same size at 12" but differ in cost by a whopping $3k. But man the specimens from that farm are crazy.

I got mine fully crossed, silvery white with a hint of blue; a week after in my tank, it looked like a GHHB, not at all like yours (tagged May 2019, at 13" now)

I recently came across these guys for sale, The best I've personally seen so far.. ? What do you guys think? FH or GH? Just curious. They were around 7 inches.

Yes for sure that's a stunner, and an example of what I alluded to in previous post -- they're coming out more fully colored up at even smaller sizes with newer generations. Just check out some Arowana sellers from Malaysia and Singapore on FB and you'll see way more than just a couple of years ago.

And while some of this crossing/coloration is likely influenced by being raised thus far in only WTT and lots of lighting, with something that crossed and fully colored you would think it would keep most of it as it aged and regardless of tank background color.

Yaponchik Yaponchik wherever you are I'd expect that sooner or later these level of FH's will be making their way onto the market more and more in the future, so there's that to look forward to :)

After considering a few similar level fish, as per my recent 24K Gold Fever! post I finally settled on this good looking little guy from a Malaysian farm, sourced by a fish dealer at Bangkok's famed Chatuchak Aquarium market.

I've named him (of course not sure on that point) 'Klondike' given the fever inspired during the search and acquisition, and also because I spent some great years growing up in Alaska.

He's about 10.5" now and referred to as a 'Golden Head Crossback Golden' on his certificate, but of course each farm uses their own marketing names for their different Arowana varieties.

He's from World of Dragon (MBI International) which I'm not sure but I think is kind of a medium tier farm. Another one I was comparing it to came from a more well-known farm (Sianlon) but finally I chose according to the fish I liked best rather than farm name.

He's currently not really a 100% full helmet or full cross yet, I'd say closer to 85-90%, but he's just taken a couple of flights in the last week, needs to get used to his new home and is still quite young, so we'll have to see how his genes plus my grooming efforts work out.

I chose not to put him in my 8' (375g) for a couple of different reasons and am currently keeping him in a 48" foot WTT tank (with a single 6500K LED light) -- it's sufficient for now, but not for long, so I have a 84"X32"X28" (325g) being made at a local shop now, it'll be finished and delivered in about 1.5 weeks but I might wait 2 or 3 months to transfer him over.

Thanks in advance for any input or advice on my journey to keep Klondike happy, healthy & handsome.

True enough, 10 samples went inside the country on Oct 25. What beauties! Shame that facebook videos couldn't do justice. I'm looking to get one, but what if the market matures even more? It's looking good for the hobbyists.

As long as the floodgates of the US Market don't open, we're in for very good fish.
