They're much darker during breeding...although still a bit shy.

The pair was doing a pretty good job of keeping the other fish in the tank away but I added an egg crate divider just in case...

Hi Dogofwar, how are your xingu's doing now? and what about your fry?

I just picked up a breeding trio of these, from a lfs owner's private collection, and they are looking really nice.
the male is about 7" and the females are around 4-5"

They're doing well although I still haven't been able to get the parents to raise them for more than a few days free swimming. I removed most of their tankmates so maybe this time...

Oddly enough last time they spawned the female did a job on the male - kicked his butt pretty well..,

Good luck with yours!

Alright, have you tried raisnig some seperatly and if so how did it go?

Right now the male seems paired with 1 of the females, while the other is being chased away.
the previous owner told me the male would take turns spawning with each female, but with months in between spawns.

Do you reckon i should keep the outsider in with them, in an attempt to keep the current pair bonded during this transition to theire new tank? Cause the outsider is being torn up a bit, and i don't want to cause her stress or damage unnessecarely?

Cheers

My male also took turns spawning with both ladies...until he kicked the crap out of the spare female one day. After bringing her back from the dead, I keep her in a separate tank now...
