Hey guys planning on buying some leopard geckos but don't know what to do with my newts because they are currently inside the aquarium that i want to put my leopard gecko in...
its a 22 Gal. and is about 3 feet wide so i was wondering if it can be like half newt half leopard gecko.
One side will be fitting the needs of a leopard gecko (heat mat heat light etc...). The other side will be fitting the needs of 3 fire belly newts the sand will gradually go down so i can fill it up with water and make a shallow mini pond type type thing so they can go out when they want...
The only problems i see in this is the two fighting. If anyone here has any experience with trying to these two animals together any help is appreciated :D

It might work... you will need a divider and a lot of selant..... I would just get them there own tank...

Keep the two together? Hell no. Definitely get them separate tanks. They come from two entirely different habitats. Remember kids, don't mix the herps!

listen to this guy. he knows more than hes own stuff.

lol alrite thanks, im probably just gonna end up giving me newts back to the pet store...

Oh, come on now! Thats not the spirit. I would definitely try and work something out. It'll be a challenge, but everyone needs those once in a while. Leopard Gecko's and fire bellied newts come from entirely different places on the globe. Eventually the Geckos will be big enough to eat the newts (which they will do if given the chance) and the newts (Chinese fire bellied?) won't get big enough to scare the reptiles off. However I think if you do some research on different terrariums you could figure out a way to set up a water dish with plenty of live plants and hiding places. Leopard Geckos may be desert Reptiles, but they do benefit from humidity from time to time. Mixing herps definatly isn't something that everyone should try and do, but if you can pull it off, it's pretty rewarding....

If you have the experience I am all for mixing species. But that pair just isn't compatible at all. The geckos couldn't stand that much humidity and if the newts got in the sand and under one of the heat lamps they would be cooked. Get a seperate habitat or choose one.

I'm sorry 116 but no, leopard geckos can not take the high humidity levels that are required for FBN. Plants + water + heat = humidity. Humidity over 40% can give a leopard gecko a respiratory infection and the enclosure will be well over this percentage if one was to go through with it. FBN are also poisonous so why would you want to keep them with leopard geckos if you know the chance of them getting eaten/bit is high?
