CE is an immune response that is usually caused by inflammation or internal disturbances, if it’s bacterial based, without physical constructs it is difficult to tell whether to simply WC or dose medicine
is there anyway to effectively tell the cause?

Without a veterinary lab screening, it is nearly impossible to determine whether simple or bacteria.
Using salt would be my 1st response, but if the infection gets worse, a broad spectrum antibiotic in a QT tank may be needed.
