Not to poo poo the idea of the home made canisters...but how are you going to deal with the weight of the water pushing on those in a power outage? I built 3 of those for my 180 when I was just going to get the 180, in testing I found out that without some sort of non maned valve that will shut and close off the intake in a power outage situation the pressure will build until a seal fails. I used a sprinkler valve and it worked great power was cut valve closed....on 9 out of 10 tests. Not good enough for me. I am really interested in hearimg how you overcame or will overcome this situation. The only way I found that will work without fail is putting the filters above tank level and pump up to it. Mine were fine until power out if I shut the manual valve it was fine but I'm not home all the time. Lmk I still have all 3 ready to go no current tank for them as I went sump. I was thinking of using them as "media reactors" off the sump above water line.

30 gallon bioball tower. 5.3 gallons of sea chem pond matrix under 23 kg of biohome ultimate. 13 gallons unused except for heater. 2 sicce 5.0 return pumps. Hose bib connections for 50%drain and full drain. Brass gate valve on 1 1/2” overflows setup bean animal style. All return lines and drains are hidden in overflow. Tried to put some thought and research into this build and this site has been extremely helpful. Some awe inspiring things to be seen here for sure. Built my cabinet with the help of my cabinet builder and his shop. 2262EDC3-7EAD-4EA6-873A-CD6F01BB1103.jpeg
