Not to poo poo the idea of the home made canisters...but how are you going to deal with the weight of the water pushing on those in a power outage? I built 3 of those for my 180 when I was just going to get the 180, in testing I found out that without some sort of non maned valve that will shut and close off the intake in a power outage situation the pressure will build until a seal fails. I used a sprinkler valve and it worked great power was cut valve closed....on 9 out of 10 tests. Not good enough for me. I am really interested in hearimg how you overcame or will overcome this situation. The only way I found that will work without fail is putting the filters above tank level and pump up to it. Mine were fine until power out if I shut the manual valve it was fine but I'm not home all the time. Lmk I still have all 3 ready to go no current tank for them as I went sump.
