This was a pain in the butt from the get go. Just got it to the point of being able to run it for more than 20-30 seconds this weekend....

Lets just say most tanks are not set up for decent flowrates.

1st pic is the overflow teeth modifications that were part of getting this thing capable of flowing almost 5K gph.....

Sump.... Should hold close to 50 gallons worth of Bio.

I incorporated a settling chamber before the 4 socks.... FAIL. There's NO WAY anything is going to settle in a 15 gallon chamber when talking almost 5K gph..... The next attempt will be better.

I can definitely relate. My 300 was within 1/8" of running over when it was only getting around 2,500 gph. I had to do quite a bit of modding. Glasscages just cuts little slits into their overflow cover, it didn't stand a chance.

Since I am keeping mostly big fish I just cut off about 1 inch off the overflow cover. I am going to make a protector out of eggcrate to make sure none of the occupants take the trip to the sump though.

Here are some before and after pictures. Not the best but they will give you the idea.

Before.

After.

I chose to just cut out every other tooth. I'll just glue egg grate onto the back side of the overflow.

My water level is only about 1/2 inch from the top, so even cutting out every other tooth was just enough..... And Tennecor's overflows aren't exactly small. I completly removed 9 teeth from each overflow.

Only problem now is that my 300 is now the aquarium equivelent of a 13.1 SBC with open headers...... I have seriously sat in hot tubs with less noise.

I'm trying to quiten down my drain pipes as well. I've drilled quite a few holes in them, which has helped, just not enough. Since this tank is in my dining room I've got to quiten it down some. I'm thinking about buying a sheet of ABS plastic (if I can find some cheap) and making a cover for the sump. Then when I put my doors on the stand I may use some foam insulation around as much of the inside of the stand as possible.

Man, I didn't even know that this thread existed! Here is the project I did this weekend. I also added 10 LBS of peat moss wrapped in netting to the sump. 60 gallon sump.

What do your standpipes look like? Do they have the "T" and 90 on them or just straight pipes?

That 60 gallon sump looks really small in there..... What are the dimensions on it?

I don't know, I'm at work lol

However, I only took a picture of each half. It's roughly the same size as my 55 gallon just taller. I'll post exact when I get home. I know it's at least 55 gallons though.
