Hey

I know there's already a Lima thread going but I didn't wanna highjack it and go off topic. I currently have a 6 X 2 X 2 180g with a Jaguar Cichlid, a Lima Shovelnose Cat and a Sailfin Pleco. The jag has always been my centre piece fish, but he is so greedy that it makes life REALLY difficult feeding the other 2 fish. That coupled with the fact that he has gradually become pure evil and bites me every chance he gets, I'm debating moving him on and centring the tank around the Lima. Just wondering if anyone can suggest some options that would work well. Really, I'm thinking something that's not an aggressive feeder. My LFS has some indo and siam tigers in at the moment, which caught my eye. Thoughts?

Beautiful fish! Ive kept Lima's with Severums, oscars, Clown Knife Fish, other catifsh, Silver dollars, Flagtails, and many more. Datnoids im sure would be fine as long as they are big enough. Lima's as you might know will eat anything they can fit in there mouths, thats the big thing to consider when stocking. The other thing lima's can get territorial of there resting spot especially as they age. If kept with other territorial fish make sure the tank is large enough for all fish and that there are enough hiding/resting spots.

I keep mine with an oscar, severum, striped raphel, and two hoplo catfish. I had silver dollars but felt they were too quick and out competed the lima for food. I might be removing the oscar soon.

Lately I have been reading about keeping groups of limas. Some people say it worksother say they get aggressive with each other.

A group of lima (could be not lima but elongatus - lima grows to 2', elongatus to 1') works well and looks striking.

Dats will work too if your catfish cannot swallow them. And if you are not a purist as you will be going outside of SA / CA.

I have an indo dat with mine. They get along well.

Thanks guys, think I'll have a look at some Dats this weekend. This is of course, I can actually bring myself to rehome the Jag. As much as he frustrates me, I've grown him out from around 2cm to 9"
