I have a 55 gallon tank with 9 RBPs in it, there about 2 1/2 inches. They seem to be doing great and there eating alot. I was wondering how often im supposed to feed them and what im supposed to be feeding them, so far its just been feeders and blood worms. Im also curious to know if they can live with any other species, i put 2 plecos in yesterday and so far they havent been killed. Ive only had the tank for about two weeks now and i really want them to thrive, so i kinda have alot of questions........
i have 4 RPB in a 29 with a small bit of fights. that small and they will be ok. Mine are 7-9 inchs long. i go for a 10g to 1 fullsize fish so for a 55 i would go with 5 full size or pushing it 6. its about length to, test them out.

hey man. I'm no expert or anything, especially not with pygo's never kept them myself, but if I'm not mistaken, a 55g tank is too small for one fully grown RBP. You want approximately 20g of H2O per fish for dilution of dissolved wastes (NO3, NO2, NH3(4)), and the surface area of the tank is generally considered more important than the gallonage per se. RBP's can get up to 12" in (1 foot) in length. Therefor a standard 55g is too narrow for one much less 5. A 50g breeder would be acceptable for one perhaps, because it's 36"x18"x18" if I'm not mistaken. Most of the pygo people on here suggest a 125g for a shoal minimum but you can keep 6 in there. Like I said I could be mistaken, maybe some people who have actually kept pygos could comment?

Your fish will probably be fine in a smaller tank when they are small, you just want to make sure that you eventually get a bigger tank when they start to outgrow their old tank. Hope this helps. :)
