Loaches at the Asian Supermarket

The 99 Ranch Market down the street has huge tanks of large live freshwater fish and sea creatures....I have seen Pacu, Carp, Catfish, and even eels. My wife hates going by those tanks because she knows I'm dying to rescue all those fish..lol
...I even saw an electric eel once...the tank was roped off and it was like $300...
I wouldn't worry about fish from markets like that if you are going to cook them, but like others have said, those fish are pretty beat up and probably wouldn't last long....and the risk of disease passed to other fish is probably the same as buyong feeders from an lfs....

Thats sort of an interesting name for a supermarket but being in Cali I can imagine the stuff that they might have on a given day.

Yup this was at a supermarket right across the GWB in Palisades Park. I'm getting mixed opinions amongst fish friends: some say parasite city and others say its a staple diet overseas.
it is both... but just as risky if not more for fish transferable parasites as minnows or goldfish

If you can keep them alive for a while hit them with some metro/prazi and some Epsom salt to clean them out.

I think it is some sort of luck thing...it is a very interesting market....and I dont know where they get their fish, but the tanks are probably 300-400g each and they have like 6 of them. They are PACKED with fish...the salt tanks and fresh and the open tables in front are crawling, literally, with live crabs...out of the water, but very much alive. It is sad in a way how the fish are on display in such crowded conditions, but I have never seen a dead fish, lobster or urchin. From what I have heard from several friends is, all the local sushi places get their fish from 99 Ranch Market....but I haven't seen any tuna..hahah!!

We actually have wild(introduced) dojos in my region. As kids we would collect them as bait and was thought they were the best bait for peacock bass and LMB, so I'm sure most fish find them appetizing. Now a days, I don't think I have the heart to live bait them...
