Lobster Tank Conversion

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
dont think you can use metal especially if your doing salt water. i just wrapped it then held it down with the gravel, or like you said put the tail on the bottom

After inspecting it more, I found that there is pvc missing, and the cord for the ozonizer was snipped. I did plan on selling the ozonizer but now I'm going to get less money for it.

It's possible the chiller is attached via bolts through the bottom of the floor. You may have to flip it on its side to gain access but first see if you can look up the brand/model online to see if they have a manual with exploded views.

The whole chiller unit should be sitting on a skid. Skid may have a few screws fixing it to the cabinet base. Cut the two hose in front (in and out). Unit should pull out.

Should I try and upgrade the sump? I probably won't have the money for a (nearly $300-400 after extras) new sump, but should I still look into it? Or should the stock filtration be fine for a light bioload with fish like clown fish, cardinal fish, fire fish, and others around that size?

I would not invest too much into it. Your lobster tank does not have a bio filter because of the ozone. The false bottom is must likely feeding into the skimmer box. Since there is no filter under the stand, they most likely have the skimmer box rigged with some kind of mechanical filtration. Is there a cartridge or floss in the skimmer box?
The Little Giant pump is sucking water from the skimmer box and returning to the tank in two places.
I personally would put gravel in the tank (bio). The bottom appear strong enough to support. No additional grating needed. Cut the in and out to the chiller and connect the two hose together. This allows the water to return to the tank. Pictures inside the skimmer box would help. Make this your mechanical.

The skimmer box had about 4-5 sponges in it. I do think there is a filter in the stand, and the man I got it from called it a sump. Once I unscrew the vent on the other side I can get some pictures.

Here is the mechanical filtration. There was a large filter pad in the drain, and three smaller ones in the overflow. There were also two bags of what looked to be carbon.20160702_204622.jpg 20160702_204621.jpg 20160702_204707.jpg 20160702_204742.jpg 20160702_204751.jpg 20160702_204801.jpg
