I wound up deciding against the pool and purchased a 300g Rubbermaid stock tank for now. Temp is holding at 77 degrees with two 300w heaters connected to an Inkbird controller. Without the controller I needed 900w to maintain 75-76. The weather has been relatively warm lately but it's supposed to dip into the 30s next week so I'm trying to fully insulate the garage today. Inside temp has been around 66 without heating the room. I sealed the bottom of the doors which helped a lot but need to add weatherstripping to the sides. Also want to add Styrofoam sheets to the main garage door panels. I'm thinking about returning the 300w heaters and getting two 500w Finnex titanium heating elements but I've seen complaints about them failing and tripping the breaker. Does anyone have recommendations for a more reliable brand?
Unfortunately the move was an absolute disaster. My striped silver dollars died during the 10 minute drive to the new house and then woke up to my 13yo Achara dying 2 days later. I netted the SDs first so they were in a bucket the longest and it was really cold that night so I think the temp got too low. No idea what happened to the catfish though, water parameters were all perfect. I had a conversation with Vic about it on YT and we're guessing he just couldn't handle the stress. Thankfully my pacu and flagtail are doing fine but the flagtail jumped out 4 times before I could get some corrugated plastic greenhouse roofing. Did it again while doing a water change so I'm going to have to keep it covered all the time which kind of sucks not being able to see them.
It's a miracle nobody was seriously injured moving the 240 downstairs. Getting it upstairs was hard enough because there's 2 sets of stairs with a 90° turn. It was a piece of cake getting it on the furniture dollies, got to the edge of the first staircase and used PVC pipes as rollers to get it down. Then had to put it up on its side sticking 8ft in the air to get around the landing, just like when I brought it upstairs. The problem came when instead of having to lay it down 45° to go up, we had to lower it 135° while standing under the tank holding it over my head. My sister-in-law had everyone convinced I was going to die lol.
