Fibreglass tanks hold water absolutely fine, and they are fantastic in my book. And when a 360g fibreglass tank costs £675 as opposed to a similar sized acrylic tank costing over £5000 then that's fantastic too!
It is quite possible that your "someone" had a bad experience with one, or knew a guy who did, or read about it somewhere. But I'd bet a lot of money that the failure rates on glass and acrylic tanks is way higher than on fibreglass tanks.

Had I known about Waterdog Products, I may have gone with them instead of having a custom acrylic tank built...especially since I have covered the sides and back of my acrylic tank with backgrounds. I bought the 405 gallon fiberglass tank to use as a sump, so esthetics was not a concern.
