Huge relief, very pretty fish. It'd be a shame if it passed. You're comment just made me more hopeful he'll pull through! Thank you everyone for the help! I'll make another thread in a few months to give you guys pics or an update!
The water is not cycled, adding it frlm your other tanks isnt going to do much for you. Are you using new filters on this tank or existing filters that have been cycled for some time ?
Like jaws said, water has an insignificant amount of beneficial bacteria in it. You will have to use media (ceramic rings, matrix or sponge are examples) from a filter that has been cycled. You should also try to closely monitor water conditions for the coming weeks.
Been using the bio wheel from the 55 to kickstart the tank. The fish came with the tank and I have no where else to put them. I usually wait weeks before fish
Might try to ask an LFS to hold onto them until tank is cycled. All fish are alive this morning thankfully.I left both Severums at my local LFS. If they're still there in a month I'll buy them back. I had typed a response but I guess I didn't send it this morning. If you are using an existing filter the fish may have been okay with water changes and monitoring, but if leaving them at the lfs is viable it's easier on the fish this way. If the tank is empty you will have to use a source of ammonia to cycle the tank, I've heard of people using shrimp, fish food or bottled ammonia. A test kit is the only way to be sure the tank is fully cycled, I suggest API master test kit if you don't have one but you want to make sure you have a liquid test kit and not the strips. From what I've gathered you have a filter from the previous tank and one or more new ones? The old filter will seed the new ones quickly, usually somewhere between 2-4 weeks ime.
