Group shot from tonight. Ginger was the only one who wanted to be anti social. Max is actually about the same size as the cats in this picture, he was just hiding against the back glass. Drogo was against the front glass, he's not really that much larger than everyone else.

Well a minor update tonight.

After the disaster of Marilyn, ole Mad Max is not the same. She tore up his tail pretty good and Max no longer has his famous flawless tail. This breaks my heart, I was very proud of that. After she shredded him, his bottom lobe hook came in larger and nicer than ever, but the top hook is not only completely missing, the top of his tail is rounded off somewhat.

This is bumming me out a lot more than it probably should.

I was hoping that the top lobe would heal up and get its hook back like the bottom lobe did, but I'm thinking now that that is probably a bit too much to hope for. :(

You have every right to be bummed out. I know that would piss me off too. And now the tail looks weird with lobe being elegant and the other being completely dull.

Dont underestimate the regenerative powers of the ATF, you just never know ... sucks though man, new fish can be such a gamble ..... tail still looks very clean too, not bad at all, hopefully the hook comes back

How long ago did the tail get damaged? I've seen other types of fish take a good while but actually have their fins get completely back to normal after a good while. I'm hoping this is the case for Max. Either way, his tail still looks great, I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot.

It was about a month ago now. I fear that the tail is fully healed already. Perfect tails are rare in a GATF and Max's tail was a source of great pride to me. I'm not totally giving up hope, but I am not overly optimistic.

Chicx, I think I missed the part explaining what exactly happened to Max? Sorry I'm prob missing it but I don't see what/who Marilyn is?

This is Marilyn-

Marilyn was a blue catfish, Ictalurus furcatus. I'd never kept one in tropical temps before and well, it didn't work out too well for me. She proved to be incredibly aggressive, though if I could have kept her in a solo tank I think she would have ended up as one of the best wet pets I ever had.
