Male young dovii killing female dovii

I don't see the point of building towards a future that is most likely never going to happen. It's starting to remind me of - how many musky can I keep in my 200 gallon tank? I think that I'll just bow out of this discussion now. Good luck.

Op if you want more of a community type tank why not rehome the hoplias?
I do agree with RD. I think your trying to juggle lots of very unpredictable fish with the plan of a large tank at the end of all the juggling. You may only be left with 1 aggressive dovii or 1 large predatory hoplias.
What is even more concerning about the dovii and the 125 is you are growing a texas out for a tank mate too.
I think you need to limit your self more or you will just keep having problems and stressed dying fish.

Scratch the plans of the Texas it's just too small to grow out because as I grow that fish out the wolf fish will be much much larger so it will not work out.

Well the goal is to have at least one other cichlid with the wolf fish which may or may not work out that's the test.

After careful consideration I will not house the texas with hoplias malabracius. Their sizes are way too off for it to work out.

I will try the dovii with the hoplias under close watch. That's all folks!

I have eaten a number of aquatic pets, but I don't use medications (other than salt), and most of mine were acquired very young.
If its something simple like ick fine (salt), but if the malady is more complicated and in quarantine, I prefer to euthanize rather than take the chance of anything spreading in the fish room.
I usually quarantine at least 3 months.
Cichlids (and others) eaten here in Panama are wild caught, although I doubt wild caught are any less exposed to toxic elements than aquarium fish are.

You mean the one almost the size of the dovii?
If so, probably a fully grown Herichthy's tamasopoensus.
A pair spawning below, the one with the dovii was a third wheel, and had to be removed from the spawning pairs tank.
Don't think it lasted long with the dovii.

When young more like below

They are not as green as the pics above, I used some subdued lighting for the spawning tank.

You know what Dan you may be right. I'm willing to try it out. I'll watch the situation closely if it doesn't pan out the dovii goes back into the 37. Then it will be shipped to Duanes free of charge for a small meal for him.
Any chance I can get a picture of the Hoplia ? It is not a fish that I am familiar with. Did a google search and it looks interesting. Would like to see yours. Thanks.
