Marble Convict?!?!

I've noticed fermales tend to be more spotted, go back and get one without any red on it, even if it's solid white, if It came out of the same batch it carries the spotted gene. Ken

You're more likely to get marbles out of a pair of pinks than a pair of black or black x pink. Some pinks carry the marble gene without showing it and while you see a regular pink they may give you a good number of marbled you when crossed to another marble or marble gene carrier.
This is how I got my marbles to go from this:

You can also get a fully barred individual who shows no white but carries the marbled gene. Same thing. Same chances. Doing pink X pink gives you no better chances than regular X regular, UNLESS they already have the marbled gene.

The one time I seen one at the LFS it was a female and was mainly black with white blotches.
I'm pissed I never baught it.
If you see one, buy it, and you wont regret it later like me.

Straitjacketstar has best looking male I've seen!

I had a male pink convict that had a black line on it's gill plate that I never thought anything about and I never raised any of his fry until I gave the pair away. The two fry I had left turned out to be male and female and both have some spotting. Right now I have 3rd generation fry from the male I gave away in which some are showing marking at 1/2".

I'm planning on raising the best ones and breeding them to see what happens. Straitjacketstar is this how you got your marble cons? I've never really done any selective breeding, so this was just kind of a cheap little project for me.

The marbling gets better with each cross of marble x marble, at least from what I've seen so far. I'm curious to see how dark I can get them.

I am doing this same project. Right now I got the following pairs. Nothing too fancy. Just breeding for the heck of it. Marble cons have amazed me for a long time.

1. Marble male x marble female. This pair has very very little marbling. Bought them as pink cons. Got the idea from Straightjacket.

2. Black convict male x marble female. All fry came out black. Kept 3. One male and 2 females. All are almost at breeding age. The black convict father was a petsmart male. Not sure if it has pink gene or not.

3. Marble Male x Marble Female.

What I plan to do soon:

1. Black Male con w/marble gene x female marble

2. Female black con w/marble gene x male marble

3. Marble male with less marbling x female marble with lots of marbling
