marble good or bad for freshwater aquariums

i have put some marble in my aquarium and was wondering if it will end up hurting or killing the fish i know some materials are bad for fish and was needing a little help with this id hate to loose any fish i have some pics of the aquarium with the marble in it can anyone help.

I believe marble is inert and you should be safe, but I defer to other opinions.
 
Actually, if that is a real skeleton, it may cause hardening of the water. You have a very nice setup though. Also, I have the same air tube, and I bury it in the gravel. Looks better that way.
 
thinks for all the info you guys and gals have helped ease my mind. the marble has been in the tank for about two weeks and all the fish are doing fine but some know it all was telling me that it was bad for the fish. thanks alot for all the info.
 
it is not a real skelaton i bought it at petco. and thinks for the tip on the bubble tube i will try that on my next water change it is hard to reach the bottom of the tank it is 30 inchs deep.
 
OHHH!!! I thought you were referring to toy marbles.

The mineral marble is compacted and reformed limestone. It's made up of calcites or dolomites or combinations of the 2. Marble will change your water chemistry towards the alkaline side. If your fish prefer soft acid to neutral water, steer clear of using marble unless it's been epoxy-sealed.
