Marineland Emperor 400 Power Filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two Emperors and an old 350 among the filters I use. They're good filters and typically last a long, long time. I rinse the blue filters when they need it until I can't anymore (typically about 6 months to a year), then I'll either replace them or use the media cartridge that contains bio media for a backing while shoving filter floss in front of it. AquaClear 110s are also very good filters; probably better than the Emperors in terms of being quieter and easier to rinse the sponges, but also about twice as much.

Well I'm pretty content with the product

you can buy replacement cartridges for both 280,400 that are refillable,i use seachem denitrate.when you do water change if it's going to take long, just float the wheel in the tank to keep it from drying out, cleaning the ends of the wheels and the seats will keep spinning good, but they all slow down.it ok for the bacteria

the bowheels are supposed to slow down that is a good thing lol if u read the book it says they turn brown and they slowdown but never replace them wtf haha

no i meant the filter cartrages need replaceing when they slow way down. the wheel isnt supposed to be replaced. my friend was the designer for marineland and designed the bio wheel lol. thats the reason my brother got it. :lock:

Sorry, biowheels were first used in sewage treatment plants long before they were ever used in aquariums. No one from marineland invented them.

I think hes saying designed how they would fit into marinelands filter system..

Anyways guys ive been running the filter for a few days and its still making noise, pissing me off kind of because my tank is in my bedroom. I tried plugging, unplugging the filter like 10 times over 5 minutes with no change in noise. I also went through the whole filter and the impeller and made sure everything was fastened tightly and correctly. Im guessing its just because the filter needs to wear in, so ill post any new results as i see them.

Sometimes when i do a water change mine makes noise. If i slightly pull up on the intake, the noise stops. Just a though maybe this is happening with yours. the intake tube pushed to "tightly" causeing to rub and make noise.
