So i go to the grocery store to buy some more shrimp, and i notice that the cooked shrimp is on sale and cheaper than raw shrimp. immediately the voices in my head start telling me that cooked shrimp is bad, and i remember something about the proteins.

i look at both packages and the nutritional value is exactly the same. both have 18g of protein per serving size. so, is there really a difference between raw and cooked shrimp? if so, what exactly is it? or are we all just repeating information we read on the interwebz???? :) :nilly:

so i decided to get a bag and give it a try. hey, times are tough the fish will either eat what falls in the tank or starve and die!

Well I don't agree with that but:
I do feed mostly cooked simply because it doesn't seem to rot in the tank as fast. With my catfish I feed them at night and pull any uneaten in the morning But I wouldn't do that with raw cause Well I have and it feels slimy so it most be braking down already but the cooked feels the same as it did the night before .
And I guess no one has ever told me otherwise

thanks for the input. as for the fish starving, im not gonna cater to their individual tastes lol. there is nothing wrong with shrimp. and if they starve to death while food falls right in front of their face, then thats a pretty dumb fish in my book ;)

I'm right there with you j. friends ask if i have to feed the fish different stuff and i tell them "nope, everybody eats the same or they don't eat, they'll figure it out eventually." Always have thus far:D

yeah man! but really though, the shrimp is for my aro, dats and pbass. all my other cichlids get a seafood mix that a i chop up and keep frozen. so its either shrimp, or seafood mix

I was wondering the exact same thing. I always find the cooked shrimp cheaper. Lemme know how your fish like them and if you find more info on raw vs cooked.
i just fed my aro and he took a few piecs with no problem, so did my dats. my cichla spit one out, then ate the other. im sure its no different for them.

i remember an old thread by Delgado (i think he's in a better place now...i.e. banned lol) where he said thawing the shrimp in hot water (in other words, cooking it) will denature the protein. not sure where he came to that conclusion since the package shows the same amount of protein for both.

unless im missing something

oh yeah i understand. my stocks similar; multiple bichir, aro's, giant gourami, few gar, pbass (now :naughty:), dat. you know, fairly standard monsters i suppose. i feed smelt, shrimp, massivore and random fish fillets. Like i said, they eat it or stay hungry and by god do they eat...:grinno:
