The black speckling.....sometimes they don't have any/enough. Yours has a lot--looks really cool. So a "couple years"....6 inches. You're seeing the same GLACIALLY slow growth rate I've experienced?

Yes unfortunately, very slow. I think I got the fish 3 years ago and it is now in the 6"-8" range. I wonder if it will reach like 10"-12". That would be something special

Jeff Rapps wrote a magazine article about Argentea and it said it takes 3 years for Argentea to be sexually mature. Compared to Amph's and Vieja that can breed at 6 months old. Raising Argentea is a waiting game.

I have 5 in a large tank, about 4-5 inches, hoping to get a breeding pair. I don't think I'm gonna be able to wait it out.

Aha but technically they are not Vieja anymore. They're Maskoheros along with the beautiful Regani. I personally haven't seen a hybrid of that nature. Someone did post a piebald Argentea not too long ago, it was beautiful.
