Cooler water temp is here. Algae and bacteria in outside ponds have slowed down and dying off.
How many of you turn the UV off for winter?
I love servicing ponds in the winter months because there is so much less bio waste and water is clear. The transition from warm to cold is a pain though. Many water plants start to hibernate and drop their leaves.

Hey. I'm currently looking into adding UV in the hopes of improving the redox balance in my 120 gallon tank and as an extra precaution against disease since I'm planning on keeping sensitive, scaleless fish that won't tolerate medication well.

I've got a flow rate of around 720 GPH split between two outflows right now, and I'm wondering what a good sterilizer wattage for this application and flow rate would be.

25W of similar design as an Aquaultraviolet brand is all you need. This should get you a decent dosage of 82mJ/cm^2. A higher wattage will increase your water temp tremendously.
Minimum flow rate through the UV should be 125 GPH. You can flow the entire 720 GPH through the UV if you want with no effect to effective dosage.

Thanks for the recommendation.
