Mini Marbled Motoros

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It was probably Chicago Stingrays you’re thinking of, he’s still breeding them as far as I know

To be honest I dont know too much about Chicago Stingrays, how they came about or anything. I just found they have great mini marbles

Thank you!! We are hoping for the best!

I had lost my P. mirinae ray when i was moving and was searching high and low for mini marble motoros, found them via instagram and started talking to them. they were literally building the racks for the tanks at the time.

Oh I’ve seen them post some things one here! I don’t know them at all unfortunately, I’ve never got anything from them but I have seen them post! I didn’t know they’re into mini marbles, that’s great! Another source for quality genes and potentially crossing the lineages for better quality or more variety for minis

Looks like I'm a little late to the party?!??!!

Wanna know something neat about forums????? They remember.

This one remembers when the community laughed and joked about the term "mini" Marble...... IF you go back far enough you can watch it all unfold. There was no social media - the only way we figured out how to keep rays was sharing info with each other. Its all documented here.

Do some digging - you can see the same thing I saw - breeders and importers pop up, then they disappear, quit, cash out, but they don't stick around. You know who has stuck around year after year through thick and thin no matter the losses and rough times????? MFK remembers...... ;)

My Man! we spoke awhile ago about getting pups but life happened and i had to swerve. once one of my bigger tanks frees up, i hope to grab a trio

Some pics with a tape for reference. Would have to look back to be sure but I think the males are around 2.5 years old. Female in the pic I think is over 4.

We always knew that there were Marbles out there that stayed smaller, but once the term "mini" became common place I began growing out other "minis" right next to mine, same conditions, same food. They are NOT all the same...... lol. Even after obtaining the nicest Marbles I could find year after year adding to the collection once out of room if nicer ones were added the less desireables were removed. This process has never ended, the problem is there is only 1 Marble here that wasn't produced here and that is one that was fathered by one of my rays and sent here when "The" Don retired from ray keeping. Most of my current collection stems from my own and Hulon/Craigs work.

I even added some very expensive imported Marbles from one of the most reputable importers out there - all 3 out grew mine pretty quick and did not produce the same quality pups that mine did so they were all voted off the island.

My collection doesn't come from not trying to add quality - I've simply grown them out and reproduced them and kept what I consider the cream of years and years of work.

I'm only a few generations deep and already some look questionably pure despite being 100% pure - just selectively bred.

DB junkie DB junkie Great comment mate. I came into the MFK community eons after all that info was shared & never had issue with the term mini marbled. Seeing fully adult rays breeding at 10-12” is all the convincing it took for me. The rays you pictured look incredible. Beautiful pattern. Love em.
Someone recently post “mini” BD’s in a for sale thread. Initially I was like “pfttt, sales gimmick”, though they weren’t any more expensive than their normal sized bro’s & sis’s. I guess we’ll see as time rolls on if they’re truly genetically different and produce “mini” offspring. Be a cool project to undertake but I don’t have the room…
We breed rabbits and get runts in every litter. They usually don’t survive so I cannot confirm if they’d produce mini-bunnies 😂 How genetics works in the animal kingdom is beyond my pay grade.
Keep up the good work mate 👍🏼

Most mini males are able to breed at 7-8". My 2 current lil males are unrolling at 6-7". Hoping they will be fathers by the end of the year.

I've had wild caught females in the past birth at 8". Learned pretty fast that just cause they can doesn't mean they should..... After I began keeping my ladies male free for the first 4-5 years - it seemed to have a huge impact on health of pups.......

That’s great insight mate 🤗

Good to see you commented, I was hoping you’d see this thread after P PhishMon84 had mentioned you breed minis. You have some some of the nicest I see and they are smaller than the average “mini”, highly desirable. Do you offer pups occasionally?

I completely agree about sharing info before social media, most info was not readily accessible, it took a great forum such as MFK to gather all the true longtime and new time hobbyists to collect insight and thoughts on all topics, that are saved and can be looked up at any time. It’s much nicer having it here, for discussion and help, MFK is a great forum with great members

Many of us have prevailed through hard times and big losses, like you say many are fly by nighters and gone in a few years but the true hobbyists stick around and respect each other’s endeavors as well as trying to help others when they can. I’ve seen at least a couple posts about people questioning mini marbles and their authenticity, so it’s nice to come across fellow breeders to showcase their beautiful mini lines

Stunning minis, some of the nicest around. Your years of effort and selective breeding do not go unnoticed over here my friend
