I know the whole parasite thing with gold fish but are minnows alittle better?
Also what good would it be if I got my myself some minnows and treated them in a 10g tank for parasites and feed them to my Oscar after a week or so?
Maybe feed them some high protein food with some vitamins then feed to my Oscar?....what do you guys/ladies think?

I have been feeding my pbass fathead minnows from a local bait shop for the past 6 months and have had no issues. I have a 40 gallon tank that I keep them in out in my garage. I go through a pound and a half a week. You just need to treat them as you would any of your other fish tanks. I do weekly wcs and feed them bloodworms and crushed nls pellets. I also keep my bass tank at 80 to 81 degrees to reduce the risk of ick. So far so good.

Train your fish to eat fresh (dead) or frozen fish, much safer. There is always the danger of introducing a fish disease using live feeders.

Yesterday I threw in 5 red zebra fry from my collection of cichlids.....I have wayyyyyy to many so throwing in 5 didn't make a dent. But lol there way to fast for him he's banging into the glass and gravel but today I noticed he got 2.

I must be the luckiest fish keeper alive, and my fish. I have been feeding my fish bait store minnows for at least 10 years now without quaratine them, (as a treat), and have not had one problem. I do feed them other things as well, from shrimp, worms, and massivore pellets. Now if you can get all your fish on frozen foods and or pellets that is great, but I have had those sturbon few that won't eat anyting but live. Also I have seen issues with parasites and ick with gold fish, but the minnows have been okay for me. And I have fed them to some really expensive fish. Just my opinion..

I've used them for other fish with no problems but with oscars and as greedy as they are I'd say that the whole process is a waste of time....Good pellets, peas, and earthworms was what I fed mine when I had them.

I'm guessing it all has to do with where you buy them and if they keep the water changes going in the lfs, my petland that I use to go to that started me off in fish keeping was a crap hole now they changed the old crew and management, now the floors are clean and there tanks look a lot better....even there feeder tanks are crystal clear and the goldfish are golden not brown and hurt.
I guess I'll keep a close eye on my Oscar and as soon as I notice him even twitch I'll stop with the minnows.

I meant to ask where are you getting the minnows from?

I got a half dozen minnows from the LFS in October, well, I lost a few to cycling and improper placement of sponge filters (live and learn).
So this morning I am looking at the fish drinking my coffee and I notice a tiny 1" minnow. WOW, I say.
The minnows are in a 20 gallon with a Map turtle, 2 goldies, several ghost shrimp, and a BN pleco.
I was really surprised that they had bred with all the danger about...........
