A few massive catfish:

Silure catfish:
Size: In Russia "Ssum" is frequently caught at 600lb+ by trawlers. In Germany, France and Spain they are caught at over 100 lb with a 100lb cat usually attaining over 6 feet in length. However, in England the record catfish currently stands at 57lb 4oz. Through a study of bones it is thought that a maximum size for this species is around 1,000lb and such specimens are thought to live in some of the big Russian lakes where the commercial trawling vessels cannot fish; the local anglers use baby pigs for bait.( considerd to be the worlds largest fish) but i think that gigas thing grows longer i dunno).

Meekon river cat:
Measuring up to ten feet (three meters) in length and weighing up to 660 pounds (300 kilograms), the critically endangered Mekong giant catfish is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world.

By the way i have a few catfish. i have an ariius graeffi (bout 13 cm about 5.2 inches), 3 peppered corydoras, 1 sterbais corydoras(a beutiful fish) (nd i had a bristlenose but it died).

The UK record is 62lb (28.123 kilo’s) for a Wels 62lb (28.123 kilo’s) 1997: R Garner from Withy Pool, Henlow, Bedfordshire. i have caught them to 30lb in a lot of lakes and seen 60lbers on the bank in the Uk. One of the lakes i fish they go up to 90 lb but they put a stop on the record as so many imported fish were being slipped into lakes they could not say they we 100% a UK fish.

In Europe, especially in the less developed countries, the wels is an important food fish as its flesh is considered a delicacy. In Germany, France and Spain the catfish is held in less regard and the only commercial interest is for tourism (people travel to fish the large rivers). In England the fish are widely sought after in the fishing fraternity with demand greater then the fish production and consequently the fish sell for a very high price (GBP25 per lb for a single figure fish rising to GBP40 per lb for a 30lb fish). It is now illegal to import catfish into the UK, except for the aquarium trade, or for use as brood fish.

Also THE WORLD RECORD for EUROPEAN WELS CATFISH: ( caught using a rod & reel ) 317.5 lbs:drool: caught in the Po River in Italy
