Only Aimara, But even that is debatable due to larger catfish species being present that might consume them.Wolf that are apex, is that only Aimara? Or Malabaricus and other hoplias species too? Also thank you very much for all that info.

Aimara are beast. Now that I think about it. I used to see those videos that said oscar can be kept with redtail cat, and silver arowana can be kept with alligator gar. Me who had tried both, look at them and was like "WTF are they talking about?". Alligator gar are definitely something else... Not terribly aggressive, but extremely predatory.Only Aimara, But even that is debatable due to larger catfish species being present that might consume them.
I appreciate the detailed response. You're right about Payara not being true apex predators since they have plenty of natural predators themselves. I also stand corrected on Wels Catfish—they definitely grow much larger than 1.5m. As for Bowfin, while they are tough and resilient, they do get preyed on by larger fish like gar and flathead cats. My goal was to contribute to the discussion, not spread misinformation. Thanks for the corrections.Majority of Peacock bass get eaten by catfish, arapaima, or wolf characins. Bluefish and Barracuda I have actually seen used for bait so NOT apex predators. Pike and muskies are the only correct ones in this post as wolf eels only eat crustaceans.
Payara are common food for Wolf Characins, Peacock bass, and catfish. Not apex but piscivores. All forms of saltwater fish will get picked off by sharks so not APEX. Wels is an apex predator, But they get WAYYY ove 1.5m. Tigerfish is the only one that fits op's criteria. Bowfins are eaten by gar and flathead cats.

Here are some apex predator fish under 1.5 meters:Give me the names of some monster fishes that are apex predators in the water they inhabit. Don't count those ridiculously large one like alligator gars and arapaima. Anything that won't grow larger then 1.5 metres.
Those are solid picks! The Goliath tigerfish is definitely one of the most fearsome freshwater predators, and the redtail catfish dominates its environment.I mean, there are a couple that come to mind.
1. goliath tigerfish: known for eating smaller crocodiles and being pretty much the face of river monsters, it fits the criteria. it grows to about 1.5 meters and is extremely predatory.
2. redtail catfish/banana catfish. grows to about 1.5 meters at the largest, and is an apex predator in the amazon
Here are some apex predator fish under 1.5 meters:
- Peacock bass (Cichla spp.) – Aggressive freshwater predator.
- Northern pike (Esox lucius) – Ambush hunter with razor-sharp teeth.
- Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy) – Top predator in many North American lakes.
- Barracuda (Sphyraena spp.) – Fast, sharp-toothed saltwater hunter.
- Snakehead (Channa spp.) – Invasive and highly aggressive freshwater predator.
- Wolffish (Anarhichas lupus) – Powerful bite, dominates cold waters.
- Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) – Fearsome predator in tropical waters.
Still Using AI *facepalm*Those are solid picks! The Goliath tigerfish is definitely one of the most fearsome freshwater predators, and the redtail catfish dominates its environment.
I'd also add:
- Giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis) – Ruthless ocean hunter, known for taking down birds mid-flight.
- Lingcod (Ophiodon elongatus) – Voracious ambush predator with a powerful bite.
- Golden dorado (Salminus brasiliensis) – Aggressive South American freshwater predator.
Ok, but which of these fish do you think would be best at giving someone a knuckle sandwich? Here are some apex predator fish under 1.5 meters:
