
Manzanita wood is ideal for a moss tree the way they branch out and their twists and turns can serve as roots of a tree in any aquascape.


Moss can be glued onto any surface but for this application, I prefer to wrap moss onto the wood with thread. It’s definitely more work but worth the effort.

My all time favorite moss…the Fissidens Fontanus. Feather-like…very delicate and slow growing.

Problems to deal with: Black Beard Algae and trimming. Unsightly and can get out of hand if not dealt with. I treat the problem with hydrogen peroxide.

Or the algae can be removed manually:

I find it easier to remove the tree out of water and spray with hydrogen peroxide…wait a few minutes then rinse before putting it back. Good time to trim when out of water.
