Most beautiful fish in the world.

Definitely with you on the Mandarin dragonettes for favorites, Anchovie. :) Beautiful fish.

My second, to add a little more uniqueness, is the Lamarck angel. Not super colorful, but I love that shade of blue and the black markings that start at the head, travels along the dorsal fin, then under the caudal fin.

Cleaned up. Please don't argue in the threads, it's unnecessary and counterproductive.

As to the OP's question, I think the most beautiful thing to be found in the seas are not fish but cephalopods.

First, we have Pfeffer's flamboyant cuttlefish. This thing is the animated .gif of the ocean, so a picture will not do. Here's a vid-

Next, the mimic octopus-

Then we have the blue lined octopus, Hapalochlaena fasciata, though to be honest you couldn't go wrong with any of the Hapalochlaena species.

Cephalopods are the most diverse and beautiful animals in the sea IMO. I am also fascinated by the fact that they're the most divergent animal from what we would normally think of as intelligent. Convergent evolution is a fascinating thing.
