Well, I live right next to the Baltic ocean, that (so they tell me ) is the largest brackish pool in the world.
A major denominator to the biotope is that it is covered with ice about 4 months each year...

In this biotope both flora and fauna is very ascetic. Not many species are acclimated to brackish, let alone the freezing conditions.

But there's a couple of lifeforms that interest me to no end.

More later.

Meanwhile, funny how grooming Samolus resulted in a nice blooming season of the remaining plants:

I never would have expected that either. That is kind of funny. What country specifically are you in?

I'm in northern Europe, Finland.

Even though the Valoya led fixture seems to work worderfully for the plants, I decided to give HQIs a shot.

I had two of these beatiful 70W shop fixtures at hand

I cut off the bulb housings

And fixed them into a rack I welded to fit the square straightedgedness of the tank/stand

Will rig it in in a couple of days to see how the color is. The bulbs are Philips CDM-TD 830, so 3000K. I'm not expecting too much of them.

Finland cool! i am in the U.S. on the coast of the Gulf Of Mexico. Specifically Louisiana. You had LED fixtures lighting those plants!? I never could get that to work. Where did you get them?

Louisiana is great.

Yes, the surprisingly well-working lighting fixture is one of these Valoya 100W thingys.

This is a pic with just the leds:

I added a t8 bluish tube to balance the very red tone a bit. I hear they make a whiter tone for aquariums now, but haven't seen it yet.

As I said, plant growth is amazing with the Valoya fixture, but I miss the glimmer and sharpness of HQIs, so I am going to try them out for a change.
