My 1000 Gallon Glass Aquarium (1000+ Gallons for Dummies)

It is structurally sound having the multiple seams on the bottom like that?

Well, I finally have something to report. The weather has come around up here, allowing me to move my cars into my shop at last. With those out of the way, I began moving the tanks this weekend. The dovii spawned again last week, so I had to try to move the 230g with about 1/3 of the water still in it. This is the idea I came up with...

I went slow in 4 low and the Cummins just inched along. The fish didn't seem any worse for wear after the event. The male still smashes the glass every time I come close. The smaller tanks and their stand are being dismantled currently. I hope to have a picture of the stand in place by the end of the evening. The builder is scheduled to arrive before the end of the month to build the tank. All of the stock are currently in the pond and doing well at 85[SUP]o[/SUP]F.

That's the Albertan way ...

Keep up the updates, loving every piece of this and so jealous. Still fairly new to the hobby, but would love to see this in person when its up and running.

oh man this is just so beastly!

I'm sure it is. And the bottom seams are stronger because their is 1.5" of glass for the sides to bond to. Interestingly, the tank builder told me that it wasn't even that important to have everything perfectly level since the tank was built on that stand. Levelling is somehow important when the tank is moved to a different stand than the table it was built on. I didn't quite understand the logic, but that's what two different people told me.

With that many more things to move with the bottom not being solid I would be damn sure that thing is level. What kind of warranty did you get? For that kinda money your dropping on it the builder better be out spit shining the front viewing window weekly.

They are one of, if not the biggest, tank builders in Western Canada. And this is the biggest tank this builder has built and the largest non-commercial tank they are aware of in Western Canada. And there are a lot of people in the aquarium community around these parts that know about this tank being built. They'll take care of it if there's a problem. ;) The bottom two layers are essentially solid as well once the silicone dries. I don't really plan on moving it any time soon. When the times comes to move it, if there are any problems, I'll bring them back to build me a bigger tank. :)
