So your hand is approx 11" from tip of your fingers to wrist is it? or is that pic more than a few months back?

No my hands are 8.5" but the entire tail and fin went past them. I didn't take the pic as verified proof of the size of the fish, I was just moving him to his new tank. After I put him in I measured the length he spanned to on my arm. The tape read 125/8". So was it an exact measurement of the fish, no. It could have been easily half an inch off in either direction. But for the ease of typing... And had I know that there was some 12yr old smartass that's maturity level hadent breached puberty yet I'd have written 12" carpintis because does it make the fish any less impressive? No, I just went off my crude measurement and rounded to the nearest inch. I wasn't apply for some sort of world record. So anymore smart ass remarks you'd like me to address?

It wasn't meant to come across as a smart ass remark. I was just wondering when the photo was taken. I agree that size isn't as important as quality and was really just was after an idea on the growth seeing that 11" hands aren"t impossible even though mine around 8.5" like yours are. My carpintis is a bit over 8" now at 10 months and wanted to just see if he was on track to be a beast like yours.

Sorry, I'm actually quite embarrassed for blowing like that. It's not my style. Had one of those nights that makes the morning a little edgy. Not to mention the constant badgering on this site gets you on edge. I had just read a thread that there was a lot of confrontation on that was unnecessary. Stupid stuff.
It's that type of behavior that drives people away. I do a apologize for acting like a jerk. I actually felt bad about it all day and nearly requested for the comment to be deleted. Hope there is no hard feelings, I know there isn't on my part.
As for the growth of yours, that's quite good. Mine lived for the better part of a year in my 1400 gallon setup and that tank really allows them to grow. He was just being transferred from that tank to the 240 at the time that picture was taken. And as I said I could have very easily been a 1/2 inch of on my crude measurement. I don't believe I'm stressing the fish out anymore than needed and don't risk the time out of water to actually measure them. I'm not out to win any awards, it's just not worth it. However, people are always asking how big a fish is so I like to get a close half assed measurement of some sort when it's handy.

All good it is always so hard to write and interpret the way someone is intending to come across on forums like this. Mine is only in a 65 at the moment but plan to build a nice big display tank when I move into my new house. I also don't believe in taking a fish out for the sake of measuring either. I think the most rewarding part of the hobby is givng a fish the opportunity to grow to its absolute full potential which may even exceed what was possible in the wild. I believe you are doing exactly that and I commend you for it.

True that and thank you, I try. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine and look forward to seeing it down the road.

That is the best example of what this species of fish can be that I have ever seen. I have a pair, and have looked at a lot of pics of Carpintis, and yours is outstanding, great job!
