Just a little update .. ordered the glass the other day .. going to get it first or second week of the new year with the holidays so close so I have lots of time to get everything else done .. got a coat of paint on the stand (oops missed a couple spots
picked up the plywood
tested a peice of foam I had kicking around to see how arragonite stuck to silicon would look .. can flake it off pretty easy so i am going to try playbox sand to see how that turns out
and I made a drill jig to try to keep the holes in the center of the ply to hopefully stop myself from splitting the ply (working in a machine shop has its advantages)
well that's going to be it till after Christmas .. going to give the stand another coat in the morning and hopefully get alot done over the holidays
Merry Christmas everyone .. hope Santa is good to ya
Whoa, thats a serious chunk of aluminum! I'm way jealous of your shop-access... How thick is that plywood? Looks like quality and longevity won't be an issue in your build, nicely done!
Got some more done to the tank today .. cut out the front window opening and got the sides and back assembled .. used 2" screws placed 2" apart and Lepage outdoor wood glue .. tons of holes but the drill jig worked great .. picked up some 4 drawer sterilite towers from Walley world for 10 bucks each for the sump filter .. gotta like a deal now and again .. going out in the morning to pick up the bulkheads .. then figure out where to put them .. going to go with 2- 1.5" for the drains and 2- 1" for the returns .. probably dont need 1.5" for the returns but would rather have too much return then not enough .. hope to have more done now that the visiting/family stuff is all done
Layed out the front and cut using a jig saw
front cut out and screwed down .. starting to take shape
got it all glued and screwed .. my son was dying to climb in .. he wants me to build him one when I am done so he can use it as a fort
A little more done the last couple days .. picked up the Zavlar, bulkheads and new hole saws since I didnt have the required sizes .. I am going to use fiberglass tape after the first coat of liquid rubber to strengthen up the corners
I got the holes drilled for the bulkheads
got the first coat of rubber on .. used about a quarter of the gallon so I should be able to get 4 coats out of each gallon
thats it for today .. going to do a second coat tomorrow and start on the sump and background
