Hello People,

I am new here, however not so new to this build due to the fact that I have started it 2 years ago! :)
I was building this tank for my office and due to the workflow i never finished it. However most of the work is done, Stand is already Built and tank is already built and painted using a Pond Armor. Tank was supposed to be finished a while ago, however, for some reason of 3 Silicone tubes i used to attach my Glass to the tank, one of them failed and never cured even after 5 days of applying, and this is where the nightmare has started!
I was trying to get the old glass out by peeling the silicone out, however it was very hard to do so on the sides where the silicone has cured. So i listened to my genius friend to use a Torch to warm up the glass and guess what the glass shattered! it was a 3/8 Glass.

So here's a question, I am about to order another glass and would like to go with 1/2 Inch Glass. What do you guys think? I've used a lot of Calculators out there and it is very hard to take into an account the fact that it is a plywood build!

The specs of the Tank from inside is:

Length: 79.5 Inches
Height: 36 Inches
Width: 26 Inches

The water will be filled up to 34 Inches.

P.S. I'll post pictures later as to how everything looks.

With that 36 inch height I would be tempted to go with 3/4 as a minimum.

When it comes to the glass of a tank... go as thick as you can afford, this being a Ply build makes little difference considering you have framed the tank.

Would you rather have 3/8" , 1/2" or 3/4" when a child starts "banking" on the glass for the "fishies!!"

After calling numerous glass shops around my area, it is very hard to get to 3/4" Glass at the size of 34x78. 3" of each side will be siliconed to plywood. Since it is so damn hard to get 3/4" glass, What do you guys think about 1/2" Tempered Glass?

1/2 tempered should be fine. Personally I would consider that the minimum.

No need for Tempered glass really... not to mention you may like to use that piece again in a few years for something else and would like the ability to cut/polish or drill it later (we all have those crazy thoughts later and wished we had the options) not to mention is it less expensive and less likely to have a wavy look to it if it is standard glass. my $0.02 is just get the standard glass because either way if it takes a good shot in the middle it doesn't matter how many pieces it breaks into... your going to have a mess either way...
