My aquabid marbled crayfish setup...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just by the markings, i would say you've got marble crays... they look the same as mine, only lighter in color...

My largest cray has berried at just over 4 inches! I've had 4 others berry but at a much smaller size (nearly half this length). I watched part of the process where it is depositing eggs. The others all hid this one climbed up on the outtake of the filter sponge wedged between it and the tank side with its underside in full view. Was really surprised how much "glue" there is or rather how much excess egg glue there appears to be its not how I thought it would look.

Im starting to wonder what triggers breeding if anything... Coz all mine would normally breed one at a time...

But this time around i've got about 5 which are all berried at the same time and are between 1.5" - 3" long and just had 2 others drop theirs late last week...

My crayfish started out brown in color then turned blue after about 2". Its been that way for months... the "adults" are blueish and their young are brown. A few minutes ago I turned the light on in my crayfish tank and found a brown colored adult next to its very blue molted shell.

Recently a few things with how I feed that tank have changed. First I started putting my excess daphnia magna into the tank knowing that when the lights go off they will be easy crayfish food on the bottom of the tank. It was fun watching the young crayfish standing on the rocks reaching out with their claws trying to catch the magnas swarming under the light before lights out.

The other change is that I have been putting in green water to feed the magnas and crayfish. In anycase it was a surprise to see one of my adults with dark colors and all the young with *much* improved markings.

^ i've heard water parameters can change a marble crays coloring a little...
