Hello,

i want to post some Weeksi pics now ...
Polypterus weeksi is one of my favourite bichirs - they are beautiful and every specimen is one-of-a-kind in colouration & pattern.
The most bichirs i know tend to grow rapidly but P.weeksi seems to be a more slowly growing species. They also are loosing their external gills very late.
The most Weeksi i've seen on pics are more greyish in colouration - mine is more yellowish ... so this specimen have a unique look.
Unfortunately there are periods where my Weeksi is very shy and lying in a self-digged(!) cave under a big plant - directly between the plant's roots.

Uwe,

What is that black and gold spotted fish with the weeksi? Its in the last picture above and its mostly covered by the plants.

Nice bichirs, btw! I bought two bichirs over the last 3 months. They are babies now, but I see that I have something to look forward to.

Hello,

the fish you have discovered on the pic is an Ancistrus - my oldest fish (over 10 years). He is my "trash-man" ... looking for everything left over by the bichirs & snakeheads. It's a very good thing to have any animals in the tanks taking care of all those not so popular left-overs! Also some snail species are doing a good job ...

Greetings
Uwe

Some amazing looking fish here well done.

Got a couple of questions though.
Do you use external mounted flash or lighting when taking these shots as some of these are obviously action shots yet they are in perfect focus ?.

How many shots do you have to disregard for one good one on average ?

Keep up the good work I feel inspired to get some better shots of mine sorted out now,my weeksi has very prominent teeth.

Hello,

all these pics were done with the internal flash of the camera ... it's a PENTAX K20D, a really wonderful machine! I had done thousands of pics with this camera since spring 2008 but i'm using only the ones i think they are special. Nearly every pic is sharp, if a pic is failed the reason will be a wrong parameter after photographing outdoor scenes ore anything else non-aquaristic.

Greetings
Uwe
