My Cichla in the 1000g Glass Tank

Tank of the year for sure.
How about some filtration specs and pics?
Those tems are gonna eat everything in the tank by the end of 2014.
I love the FTS!

The filtration is explained in detail in the build thread. I'm still not 100% happy with it to be honest, which is why I don't discuss it a lot. It works fantastic, it just needs a little "finishing" to meet my standards.

100% closed loop is the Cliff Notes on it though. And it absolutely stomps a sump in effectiveness and ease of maintenance.

Basically a perfect example of how to take care of cichla in a aquarium. That tank is stunning

Well worth every penny! Great job on the crystal clear water on a tank that size.

Well I thought I would take the opportunity to provide some perspective on the size of these fish.

As mentioned in the first post, I am still growing a few fish out for the 1000g tank in a 180g. One of these fish is a C. orinocensis "Rio Atabapo" female provided by Jeff in exchange for an Azul lost at his facility while organizing a shipment (these things happen and it was a very generous offer on Jeff's part to give me one of the fish out of his "pet" tank in exchange). Unfortunately, I just observed this fish being a b!&*^ to the smaller C. kelberi "Rio Ipatinga"'s and one of them is actually a little chewed up and showing prominent stress bars. The kelberi are far more valuable to me than the orino, so I reluctantly decided to move the orino to the 1000g...after feeding everyone very well first. I'm not sure how it's going to pan out. This orino got one of my brokos when it somehow made it through the eggcrate the first day home...that whole circle of life thing may kick into effect in my fish room shortly. But in the meantime, here are some pictures of the 9" orino (I measured her when I took her out) next to the most likely individuals to make a snack of her.

P.S. - I have a tendency to underestimate sizes. lol.
