If it were me, I would start out with some large cheap fish, like RD's or something, and if that worked out for a few months, then I'd consider adding some more expensive fish (or, if you get the jar when it's still a juvie, then I'd wait until the jar is over 8-10 inches).

Yeh man i would like to raise the fish from young, also i plan to add two rays first (Retics) and then the small arowana, im also going to add the juruense cat and hope that the Jar learns from a young age the top of the tank is his, i wonder if you could put some kind of shelf to stop the aro gettin down there??

well i have only had success with these fish here the jardini i had 2 jars ago killed two silvers no prob before he died
my tsn goes fine with him but hes big and mean i saw him mess up my clown knife before so maybe one of hose
you can also find those online for cheap or keep an eye out at your lfs and one might pop up do to the fact no one want to go bigger:cry:
m parrots have done fine aswell no one bothers them and they are real cheap anyway:naughty: online private sale will yeild cheaper fish
but buyer beware

Does flow in the tank help with this aggresion cos it helped with my ca cichlids (by flow i mean fish cant swim in it properly)

well i have alot of flow on the top half of my tank and my jar love it and plays in the current all day while my clown knife hide under a log or puts his face beside some plants and thinks hes hidding(funny guy) my tsn just kicks it under some drift wood and the parrots just kick it they get in where they fit in but im movin em to theyre own tank after the missing one from the pics is better i have him in a quarantine right now with a parasite problem ive almos got it nipped though:D
