new pics..shows proof he hasn't eaten his kids after a year together

I believe pictus cats have a poison in their pectoral and dorsal fins. He's probably learned long ago the hard way that these guys aren't food.

Yeah, I remembered something about that last year when I noticed whiptails, plecos, bala sharks and ID sharks, etc etc go missing, but not these guys. They are poisonous, but was shocked how he figured that part out unless like you said...he learned a long time ago. But, either way, it's such a strange trio...and he did help protect the kids from the mean ol' flowerhorn before she got kicked out into exile...He'd sweep right in front of them when she was going on a bounty hunt, and he took the beating (and chunks out) from her. Wish I could've got it on video. I have been thinking about putting her back in there lately just to see...

was commenting on another post when I remembered this...I had a polypterus couple years back. Had him for 4-5 years. You know that D*** thing LOVED to eat pictus catfish!! Watched him time and time again do it (long story behind why so many times). Anyways, I remember seeing him grab them from the sides to hurt/immobilize them. Then, well, he'd chow down. He ended up getting a taste of his own medicine when years later an old pacu bit his tail off. He healed, but was paralyzed in that area afterwards. Died few lweeks later...but, there was one fish that loved to eat them. Think that's why I'm even more curious about my kitty fish not eating the ones I have now. He could literally just vacuum them on in...
