My Large Clown loaches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thought I should follow up my previous long winded post(apologies about it, got carried away) with a quick video...of the loaches, barbs and SAEs combo. Ignore the plants...the barbs ate them all

I agree with Coryloach, the optimal temp for CL's is approx. 26 c (78.8 F) so best to choose from fish that are typically found at that temp range. I also second the person who suggested adding some PVC or ABS to your tank to give the loaches a place to feel less stressed. Larger loaches can take weeks, sometimes months to adjust to a new environment and a rather bare tank isn't going to help. Good luck, nice score.

I added sand to the bottom and the loaches seem to like that a lot. They are much more personable now. Im still looking for some medium size loaches to add to the group is anyone knows of any for sale. Probably around the 4-7 inch range.

Agreed, a tank the size of yours also has size limitations. I'm assuming that the bio-filtration that you are running is cycled and fully mature?

Im sure the tank is not yet completely mature with its bacteria but it is doing well. I used media from an old tank, sponge filters from and old tank and AquaVitro Seed. The tank is still clouds from adding the sand but i will post pictures once it clears up. I test the water a few times a week and do water changes as needed. Overall the tank is doing well.

As for the life of the loaches I plan on getting them an 8 foot tank in the future to live in. For now the 120 should be fine as the smaller ones grow.

Their staple diet is Hikari bottom feeder and algae flake, I feed blood worms and chopped up market shrimp a few times a week. I would like to start feeding more veggies. What would y'all suggest?

Clown loaches are not herbivores, but if you want to include some aquatic plant matter in to their diet I would highly recommend NLS AlgaeMax.
