Amazing specimens definitely sensing a theme there.

Are your plants real?
They are fake Val. Got them from amazon. I do have a couple of real anubias in there though.

kno4te kno4te what are all the “new” classifications?

Looks like yarelli at first glance… i thought one way to tell was the pupils being round or oval shape. I know the oval shaped ones are typically “sp. indochina”. Im not sure what all the classifications are these days tho.

Regardless, i wouldn’t be too worried on growth. I had a group of the largest b. Bagarius at the time highland giants. Out of 6 fish they ranged from 12-18” after the first year. Pretty slow compared to most larger growing cats.

Can’t see the eyes fully but this is what I have long considered (in the old naming) to be B.bagarius. Which I find are the only ones to have the slight kink in the dorsal fin too along with the hugely upturned pectorals.
Naming is so messed up now.
Looking forward to his progress.

I myself not too sure about the classifications. I’m new to the bagarius sp. Recently described in 2021 I believe. Once I heard about the smaller size I was focused on trying to get one. But the way to ID vegrandis is anal fin and adipose fin position. I know the eyes have been looked at to help ID. I’ve attached a pic of a vegrandis eyes from aquarium glaser as well.

I haven’t checked this fish. But if starts putting on size then will consider moving it.

Checked my pics circa 2011-2012… def looks spot on. This was from the days when it was all we had species wise. Harder to keep, but dang do they just look so good compared to the “sp. indochinas”… i do like the look of Lica but its probably because its closest to these guys with heavy pattern.
